Pedestrian hazard at junction in south Mayo town

A PEDESTRIAN crossing at the Abbey Street junction in Ballinrobe, beside Homeland, is needed as a matter of urgency.

The matter has been highlighted by Councillor Michael Burke at a municipal district meeting where he said the location has become a serious hazard for people trying to cross the road.

It's highly dangerous for children going to school and a safe crossing needs to be delivered as soon as possible.

In a written reply to a notice of motion, Councillor Burke was told: 'As per previous reply to a similar enquiry, works proposed at the Claremorris Road/ Watson's Lane junction associated with the Safe Routes to School Programme should progress through the stages with the NTA next year, commencing with appointment of consultants.'

Councillor Patsy O'Brien said this was the exact same answer he got previously, with previous motions having been submitted by members.

Something has to be done about it, he implored, with the high volume of people in the area.
