Seamus Connolly O’Hagan

Seamus Connolly O’Hagan - remembered in Mayo as a champion for all his students

A LIFE well lived, Seamus Connolly O’Hagan passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Born on May 12, 1939, in Ballinahatten, Kilkeel, Co. Down, Seamus was the son of the late Patrick and Rosina O’Hagan. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Patricia (née Flynn), and shortly after, the couple moved to Manitoba, Canada, to begin their life together. Their journey took them through many communities, including Lynn Lake, Moose Jaw, Castlebar (Ireland), Winnipeg, Pinawa, Calgary, and finally, back to Moose Jaw.

A dedicated and highly respected professional, Seamus was a teacher and a school principal during his time on the Canadian Prairies, and then a psychologist for Western Care in Ireland.

Upon returning to Canada, he served with distinction as the Assistant Superintendent at the Agassiz School Division in Beausejour, Manitoba, until his retirement in 2006. He was a constant champion for students, particularly those with special needs, and special talents.

Seamus was a deeply devoted father who was very involved in his children’s lives as they grew up. Whether he was coaching soccer or volunteering as a timekeeper for their swim meets, he was always there to support their passions. This devotion extended to his two granddaughters and three grandsons, whom he adored. He took great pride in supporting them in their sports and academics whenever he could, cherishing every moment spent together.

He was predeceased by his parents and his beloved son, Ciaran. Seamus is survived by his wife of 57 years, Tricia; children, Ronan (Suzanne) and Aisling (Stephen); and sister, Nuala Power. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his five grandchildren: Isabelle, Keegan, Joshua, Connolly, and Catriona.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital in Moose Jaw, and special appreciation for the long-term care over the last several years provided by his neurologist, Dr. Vinesh Pillay, and family doctor, Dr. Danielle Gillette.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 13, at Moose Jaw Funeral Home (268 Mulberry Lane, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada) at 1 p.m. local time.
