Stage set for Mayo Under 17 Girls Cup and Shield finals

BALLYVARY Blue Bombers will be hoping to complete the double when they face Westport United next Sunday (May 17) in the final of the Hayes Mechanical & Engineering Mayo Girls Under 17 Cup.

Already crowned Premier Division champions, Ballyvary enjoyed a 5-1 win in Snugboro in last Sunday's semi-final, rolling in three goals in a 10-minute spell after the hour mark to see off the battling hosts, who had brought the scoreline back to 2-1 just before this.

Westport United booked their spot in the cup final with a 3-1 win over Kilmurry. A 2-0 half-time lead was pared back soon after the restart, with the assurance goal coming on 57 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Under 17 Shield final will feature Castlebar Town and Manulla in a double header at Umbro Park, Milebush, Castlebar. Manulla will be looking to add to their recent Connacht Under 16 title win, while Town go into the fixture sitting top of Division One in the league, with a possible double on the cards.

Town nudged Ballyglass 2-1 in their semi-final after their visitors led at half-time, restoring parity from the penalty spot on 57 minutes and getting the winner on 75.

In an evening fixture, Manulla's Sarah Cunningham scored the game's only goal against Fahy Rovers as her team booked their place in the shield final.

Sunday's Shield final will kick off at 11.15 a.m., with the cup final to follow at 2 p.m.
