Two-year suspension for Mayo motorist detected driving without insurance
A DRIVER who was detected driving without insurance was given a two-year driving suspension and fined €500 when he appeared before Judge Vincent Deane at Castlebar District Court.
Christopher Daniel Coleman, Partry, Derrida, Claremorris, pleaded guilty to the offence which occurred on April 28 of last year when he was stopped at a garda checkpoint and found to have no insurance on his car.
Ms. Cathy McDarby, solicitor for the defendant, said her client had to use his car on the day in question following an emergency situation which arose having received a call in relation to a health issue with his sister-in-law. It was while returning home that he was stopped.
The court heard the defendant had a previous conviction for no insurance as well as drink driving and careless driving going back to 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Judge Deane accepted the argument from the solicitor that the previous conviction went back a good few years and her client had not been in any trouble until this more recent incident.
