Gardaí respond to incident of anti-social behaviour in Mayo town

Residents of Balla have been left shocked by an incident of anti-social behaviour that occurred in the town over the weekend.

Gardaí were called to the scene to deal with a situation which saw traffic being halted as a result of the disturbance.

The incident occurred at Main Street and a man was detained by gardaí.

Video footage of the incident was circulated on social media.

Local Councillor Donna Sheridan said many people, who contacted her over the weekend, were left upset over what had happened.

In a statement, gardaí confirmed they responded to an incident at Main Street, Balla, last Saturday.

"A man was detained in connection with the incident," the statement added.
