Mayo musical society secures eight AIMS awards nominations

Castlebar Musical Society has been nominated for an incredible eight Association of Irish Musical Societies awards categories, including the coveted Best Overall Show, for its recently staged production of the hit musical ‘We Will Rock You’.

The full list of nominations for Castlebar are: Best Overall Show, Best Director (Donna Ruane), Best Female Singer (Caoimhe Halligan), Best Male Singer (Chris McLaughlin), Best Choral Singing, Best Ensemble, Best Technical and Best Visual.

“We felt we had a very special production on our hands and were hopeful we might feature among the nominations, but nothing could have prepared us for what transpired as they were being announced online” said Anne Marie Gibbons, Chairperson of the Castlebar Musical Society. “We had a dream team in place from the get-go, right across every facet of the production, and that together with the amazing feedback from the audience and the support received from the local business community, lent itself to a very special and most memorable week in the TF Royal Theatre. Needless to say, we are absolutely delighted.”

Anne Maria added: “It was a great night for the western region musical societies in general with our great friends and neighbours in the Claremorris Musical Society and the Ballinrobe Musical Society securing five nominations and three nominations respectively.”

The awards ceremony will be held in the Gleneagle INEC, Killarney, Co Kerry, on Saturday, June 13.
