Choral music concert with Carra Singers to take place in Mayo

Castlebar-based choir Carra Singers, directed by Aušra Kvietkutė, will present their summer concert in Christ Church, The Mall, Castlebar, on Thursday, June 4, at 7.30 p.m. Entry is free, and all are welcome, with donations to Mayo Pink Ribbon greatly appreciated.

Carra Singers is a female-voice choir, based in Castlebar and directed by Aušra Kvietkutė. Carra Singers have participated in the Mayo International Choral Festival, in addition to performing at concerts and events in various locations in Ireland and abroad, including a performance in Reading in the UK in 2023.

Musical Director of Carra Singers, Aušra Kvietkutė, is also a piano and vocal teacher at Carra Music School which is based in Castlebar and Belcarra. An accomplished pianist, she has accompanied many choirs, including the Westport Children's Choir, the Mayo School of Music Youth Choir, Vocalessence and the Cill Aodáin Choral Society. She has also sung with a number of choirs in Ireland and Lithuania. Aušra said: "Carra Singers recently sang at the 13th International George Moore Conference in Castlebar, and we now look forward to presenting our summer concert in Christchurch in aid of Mayo Pink Ribbon, a very worthy cause.” Carra Singers will be accompanied by classically trained pianist Ludmila Burcovschi, who is a piano teacher and leads an international music group called Le Cairde, in Ballyhaunis. Carra Singers’ repertoire for this concert includes a selection of sacred, popular and folk songs, many of which reflect on the theme of nature.

A variety of guests will perform at the concert. These include mixed-voice community choir the Westport Singers, under the direction of Joseph Garvey. Also performing on the night will be saxophonist Pádraig McCaul, who is also a renowned contemporary landscape artist. Lakštingėla Lithuanian Folk Ensemble will also feature on the evening. This group is directed by Aušra Kvietkutė and is made up of women of Lithuanian nationality who live in Mayo and meet weekly to celebrate Lithuanian culture through language, music and song. They will perform a number of Lithuanian folk songs.
