Over €320,000 secured for key Mayo marine infrastructure projects

Funding of €322,500 has been announced for three important marine infrastructure projects in Mayo under the 2026 Local Authority Marine Infrastructure Scheme.

The projects and funding amounts are as follows: Accessibility Pontoon and Chair Lift for Ballina Quay (€135,000); Slipway and Pontoon for Rosmoney (€112,500); Stabilisation Works at Purteen Pier (€75,000).

Welcoming the announcement, Minister Alan Dillon said: “This is very welcome funding for three communities that depend on strong, safe and accessible marine infrastructure. These projects will make a real difference on the ground, from improving access at Ballina Quay, to enhancing facilities at Rosmoney, to supporting essential stabilisation works at Purteen Pier.

“This investment is about delivery. It is about continuing to progress key infrastructure projects that improve safety, support local users, enhance tourism and strengthen the amenities that coastal communities across Mayo rely on every day.”

Minister Dillon said the funding demonstrates the Government’s continued commitment to coastal communities and rural infrastructure.

“I want to acknowledge and thank Minister Martin Heydon for his support and for recognising the importance of continued investment in Mayo’s marine infrastructure. “Funding such as this ensures that local communities see real and practical benefits from national schemes. I also know that many more communities with harbours and piers will require future support, and I welcome the continued engagement in addressing those needs.”

“I look forward to Mayo County Council progressing these works without delay, including the necessary procurement process and securing three quotations where required. These are important projects for local communities, visitors and marine users, and I will continue to advocate strongly for further investment in Mayo’s coastal infrastructure,” Minister Dillon concluded.
