Family confirm sale of Mayo village premises

The Dempsey family have confirmed the sale of The Olde Woods, Balla and sought to address what they describe as a number of misconceptions that have circulated in recent months.

In a statement, the family clarified that the premises has been leased for the past three years by an independent company, which has been responsible for all operations within The Olde Woods during that time.

A sale has now been agreed with a separate party, with the purchaser understood to intend redeveloping the property into apartments - a development the family described as "a huge asset to the village."

Notice has been issued to the current leaseholder and the family said they hope matters will be concluded in the coming weeks.

The Dempseys said they are "immensely proud" of everything The Olde Woods has represented within the community over the years, and reaffirmed their family's long-standing commitment to village life.

"We have been heavily involved in the local community for generations and will continue to support and play our part in the future, just as we always have," the statement read.

The family also extended their thanks to customers and supporters, saying the friendships, memories, and sense of community created through The Olde Woods would "always hold a special place in our hearts."
