Community rally behind fundraiser for Mayo boy injured in accident

THE Mayo community is reaching out to support the family of a young boy being cared for at Temple Street Hospital following a traffic accident.

Luke Glavey, who recently made his Holy Communion, was injured when struck by a car while going to get an ice-cream on Wednesday last.

The 'funny, energetic' boy, who plays football with his local club Kiltimagh Knock United, is currently receiving care in ICU at Temple Street Hospital, with his family at his side. The club has extended its best wishes for strength and recovery in the days ahead.

An online fundraiser on GoFundMe has been set up for Luke and his family, and there has been a huge response as the community rally to support them.

On the fundraising page, Luke's sister, Vanessa, explained how eight-year-old Luke was trying to get an ice-cream when he was tragically struck by a car.

“Luke is currently in ICU at Temple Street Children’s Hospital in Dublin. He has suffered multiple serious injuries, but he is still with us, and for that we are incredibly grateful.

“Luke has a very long road to recovery ahead of him before he can get back to full health and mobility - and back to being the funny, energetic little boy who can never sit still.

“We are setting up this GoFundMe because, for the foreseeable future, our mam Tracey and Joe will be unable to work as they stay by Luke’s side throughout his recovery. The costs of accommodation, food, travel, and parking in Dublin are already adding up quickly.

“In addition, Luke will need ongoing medical care and private procedures that our family will struggle to afford.

“Right now, our main focus is Luke - helping him heal, supporting him through every step, and getting him back to his happy, charming self. Any donation, no matter how big or small, would mean the world to our family and help ease some of the financial pressure during this heartbreaking time.

“If you are unable to donate, please share this page and keep Luke in your thoughts and prayers.

"Thank you so much for your kindness and support.

“Any funds left after this will be donated to Temple Street Children’s Hospital to thank them for all the care and kindness they are continuing to show us through this difficult time.”
