Special classroom sanctioned for Mayo primary school

Mayo TD Deputy Keira Keogh has welcomed the announcement today of 42 new special classrooms by Minister Hildegard Naughton.

The Westport-based representative stated: “I am delighted for Swinford N.S. to see the long-awaited special classroom being granted by the minister.

"This will require a new modular project to facilitate the children, and I am hopeful that this will commence as soon as possible,” said Keogh,

“There are many more schools awaiting inclusion and allocations and I will continue to advocate to the minister and my colleagues in government to ensure that no child is prohibited from attending their local school due to lack of facilities or resources.”

“This Tranche 9 of special class sanctions brings the number of additional classes for 2026/27 to 15 in Mayo, eight at primary level and seven at secondary level, with a total of 546 countrywide.”
