Top price of €6,950 for BBX cow and calf at Mayo sale

A TOP price of just under €7,000 was paid for a BBX cow and calf at Balla Mart on Saturday.

The October ’20 cow, with its Belgian Blue heifer calf at foot, made the top price online of €6,950 for a Ballina farmer.

The BBX cow, sired by Imperial de le Cluse (S905), was sold with her BBX heifer calf, sired by Seaview Norbert. The cow is served again to lm2962 Clonark Ultan.

There were some very good prices paid in the cows overall, with some heavy cows making from €3,000 to €4,000 due to online northern buyers.

In the dry cows, a 2019 Charolais weighing 845kg made €3,110 for a Castlebar farmer.

In the bullocks stock 300kg to 400kg averaged €4.70/kg, bullocks 400kg to 500kg averaged 4.29/kg, while those 500kg plus averaged €3.75/kg.

One Angus bullock, 775kg, was sold for €3,050 by a farmer from Charlestown who had some smashing two year old bullocks.

There was just over 160 lots of heifers this week, with an improved trade. There were a lot of natural feeding heifers with no breeding types.

Heifers 300kg to 400kg averaged €4.45/kg - up .3cent/kg on last week. Heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged €4.27/kg - up 20 cent/kg on last week. And heifers 500kg plus averaged €3.82/kg.

260kg LMX €1,440 (€5.54/kg)

375kg CHX €1,910 (€5.09/kg)

440kg CHX €2,250 (€5.11/kg)

570kg CHX €2,730 (€4.79/kg)
