Woman admits careless driving after collision at Mayo courtesy crossing

A DRIVER who collided with a pedestrian at a courtesy crossing at Bridge Street, Westport, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving at Castlebar District Court.

Geraldine Burke, Sheroe, Westport, was fined €250 by Judge Patricia Cronin who noted that the injury sustained by the injured party were of a minor nature.

The incident happened at 9.16 a.m. on a wet and dark morning of April 18, 2025.

The defendant at first thought there was very little contact following the incident but, having viewed CCTV of the incident, accepted there had been contact with the female pedestrian.

Mr. Dermot Morahan, solicitor, said his client had a clean driving record.

The court was told the injured party had submitted a claim through the civil court for injuries sustained in the incident.
