Public meeting to discuss concerns about proposals for Mayo town's crossing
A PUBLIC meeting has been called to discuss proposed safety enhancements in the environs of the pedestrian crossing in Foxford.
The meeting will take place in the Moy Hotel, Foxford, on Tuesday, June 2, at 7 p.m.
Councillor Neil Cruise has called the meeting as concerns grow among the community about plans for the crossing and traffic management in the town.
The proposals are currently out for public consultation, and submissions can be made to the council in writing or via an online portal.
Last week Councillor Cruise asked Mayo County Council's Road Design Office to hold a public consultation event in the town.
He said he was informed that the current statutory/public consultation process provides the appropriate and structured mechanism for gathering and assessing public feedback and that all submissions received will be fully considered as part of the review.
It was confirmed that the council is not proposing to hold a public consultation event at this stage, having regard to the nature of Section 38 proposals, the limited timeframe before the consultation closes, and the importance of ensuring all submissions are treated consistently through the formal process.
Councillor Cruise, in an update, said he has been liaising with various members of the community, including Jason Howley in Constituency.ie, to develop a public case as a discussion platform on this issue.
It is imperative, he said, that the community and users of the pedestrian crossing along with motorists feed back into the portal on Mayo County Council's website for the Section 38 proposals for the crossing.
To date, 33 submissions have been made via the portal which is available at consult.ie.
