Go-ahead for interpretive centre on Mayo island
A NEW interpretive centre on Clare Island, with additional facilities for visiting tourists, has been granted planning permission.
The project, to be located at Capnagower on the island, required a change of use for a building, from existing education use and general purpose rooms and study space, to be transformed into an audio-visual interpretive centre.
The centre will also have a cafe and souvenir facilities.
Mayo County Council has approved an application seeking planning for the centre submitted by Chris O'Grady.
Planners found that the project is considered a suitable use for the existing building.
It will enhance the tourism offering on the island and be a welcome addition for visitors.
