Irish Rail's 'negative' timetable change leaves Mayo commuters peeved

A Mayo Oireachtas member has highlighted the fact a change to the Irish Rail timetable has left passengers on the Westport to Dublin early morning service peeved.

Deputy Paul Lawless said they now have to face an extended waiting times of up to 70 minutes for commuters on the 7:28 a.m. Castlebar to Ballina service to arrive at the central Mayo station for their connection.

He has asked the Minister for Transport to explain the reason for the current timetable configuration which requires passengers to wait so long for the Athlone service.

Deputy Lawless wants Irish Rail to review this arrangement with a view to reducing delays and ensuring a fit-for-purpose peak-time commuter service.

"Steps must be being taken to address the negative consequences reported by daily commuters."

Minister of State Sean Canney said the matter will be raised with Irish Rail.
