Mayo athlete Eddie Doyle wins two national bodybuilding titles at first attempt
Widely-known Mayo painting contractor Eddie Doyle has emerged triumphant from the national bodybuilding and fitness finals at the RDS Dublin.
The Castlebar ace excelled in his efforts by winning an incredible two first placements and a fourth position in a third category.
This was an incredible achievement as it is Eddie’s first time taking part in such a competitive event.
His placements were first in the novice event category, first in the Masters over 35 category and fourth place in the True Novice category.
The Musclecontest Ireland bodybuilding and fitness event at the RDS is a weekend-long challenge involving hundreds of competitors and features an NPC Worldwide Regional, an IFBB Pro League Pro Qualifier (with 8 Pro Cards on the line), and the IFBB Pro League Bullman Pro Classic Physique Olympia Qualifier.
Edward’s success has come about from months of dedicated training, focus and ultimately an extremely regimental diet.
A regime that could be quite testing for most but his experience and training as a Karate instructor, holding a Fifth Dan Black Belt, was helpful in maintaining a strict regime of training over the last six months.
In his own words Eddie’s journey to this event started last September 2025 .
He elaborated: “My daughter and I attended a bodybuilding competition in Limerick. On the way home I decided to enter Musclecontest Ireland.
"That evening I weighed 101kg. Not totally bad as I have continually trained in Jarate and weight training.
"I secured a trainer/coach, someone to be accountable to. Simon Sadowski has been essential in this endeavour. And away i went.
"I can honestly say it's been the most challenging, rewarding and revealing thing I have ever done.
"People laughed, told me I was crazy. They couldn't understand or comprehend why or what I was doing. Still can't. Still won't. But that's ok. Why should they?
"I joined Goals Gym, a great place with fantastic staff and support.
"Family and friends got behind me with slagging and support.
"Accumulating in me stepping on stage last Friday, weighing in at 76kg. At that moment, placings were irrelevant, but two firsts and a 4th place were achieved within a few minutes.
"Was it worth it? Yes. Absolutely. So much so, I will definitely be doing it all again. It's the process not the placement. It's the structure, discipline and concentration of effort."
It's was a fantastic experience meeting the most interesting and sincere bunch of lads and ladies.”
On the back of this inspirational success, Eddie is considering taking part in another competition later in the year
