Contractor on site for new Mayo sports facility

WORK has commenced on site on a new GAA field in Bohola.

Durkan Bohola Community Park (DBCP) has issued an update on the major progress being made throughout the park.

Works have officially commenced on a new full-sized GAA field, including goal posts, ball stop nets, flood lighting, pitch perimeter fencing, and the completion of the footpath around the park.

Contractor Padraic McTigue is now on-site, with works progressing well.

Weather permitting, it is hoped to have the new field seeded by August/September with Prunty Field Specialists the main contractor for laying the pitch.

Padraic McTigue will also begin preparation works on the second field, which will be allowed to settle for 12 months before Prunty Field Specialists complete the surface installation.

DBCP extended thanks to Bill Durkan for his unwavering support towards the project, which would not have happened without his continued commitment.

DBCP also received €445,000 in sports capital funding towards the project, and extended thanks to Minister Dara Calleary and his team for their assistance in securing this vital funding.

The park team shared more good news with the local community this morning - the lighting of Micksey’s Way.

They confirmed funding of €27,000 from First Choice Credit Union and €8,000 from Councillor Neil Cruise for lighting the popular walkway.

Works will commence this month and will be carried out by Electric Skyline.

Councillor Cruise was thanked for his GMA allocation and ongoing support for this important community project.
