Heavy stock hold their own at Mayo mart this week
BALLA Mart has reported that while lighter bullocks were not as good as last week, heavier stock held their own at Saturday's sale.
This week saw more heifers out, with over 180 lots on offer. There was a lot of mixier types but all heifers were up again this week.
Bullocks 300kg to 400kg averaged €4.44/kg, bullocks 400kg to 500kg averaged €4.08/kg, while those 500kg plus averaged €3.75/kg.
One 865kg bullock made €3,230 for a farmer from Kilkelly who had some smashing bullocks.
Heifers 300kg to 400kg averaged €4.77/kg - up 32 cent/kg on last week. Heifers 400kg to 500kg averaged €4.29/kg - up 2 cent/kg on last week, while those 500kg plus averaged €3.99/kg - up 17 cent.
A smashing Au Du Bauffaux heifer weighing 345kg was sold for €4,700 by a Westport farmer following tremendous online activity.
This week there were 90 cows. Dry cows 500kg plus were making €2.97/kg. There were some very good prices paid in the cows with some heavy cows making over €3,000.
An April ‘21 Limousin dry cow weighing 845kg made €3,240 for a Manulla farmer. An 11-year-old cow with its heifer calf at foot made €3,880 for a Ballina farmer.
Weanlings have finished selling on Tuesday evenings and are now back selling on Saturdays.
Bull weanlings 200kg to 350kg averaged €4.54/kg, bulls 350kg to 450kg averaged €4.22/kg, and those 450kg plus averaged €4.26/kg.
