Mayo girls off to a winning start at Gaynor Cup

AN inspirational performance from winger Violet O'Malley saw Mayo ease to a 2-0 victory over Inishowen in their opening Gaynor Cup match at UL this morning.

Violet had already gone close before she opened the scoring on 11 minutes and also hit the bar in the first half. Annie Fleming and the Inishowen 'keeper collided heavily outside the box with the north Donegal girl seeing a yellow card for her troubles.

Mayo managed the game very well in the second half and O'Malley scored a stunning second goal to seal the victory.

Best for a very spirited Inishowen side were Kaci-Rae Kelly, Grace McGonagle and Ella McKinney.

Mayo now face old rivals Galway in their final group game this evening (Tuesday) at 5.45 p.m.
