Mayo island launching biodiversity action plan
THE Inishturk Biodiversity Action Plan will be officially launched on the island next Friday, June 5, at 2 p.m.
Minister Dara Calleary will be on hand to launch the plan, marking a significant milestone where long-term planning meets real delivery for the future of island life.
Led by Inishturk Community Club CLG, the plan has received a major boost through new grant support from Community Foundation Ireland, in partnership with the National Parks and Wildlife Service. This funding ensures the protection and promotion of Inishturk’s plants, wildlife and habitats will be guided by expert ecological knowledge - supporting informed, long-term action on the ground.
The project was announced by Christopher O’Sullivan, Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, and includes the appointment of a dedicated climate action, biodiversity and circular economy officer to guide long-term ecological stewardship and align with the Inishturk Island Development Vision 2050.
The biodiversity action plan forms part of the wider renewed Community Futures plan, launching alongside a coordinated programme of projects across infrastructure, harbour development, digital connectivity, health supports, environmental sustainability and tourism.
