Progress outlined on Mayo college's science lab upgrade

Tenders are being sought for the refurbishment of a Science Laboratory at Davitt College, Castlebar, under the Climate Action Summer Works Scheme, according to Minister of State, Alan Dillon.

Mayo Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board is seeking contractors for the project, which carries an estimated value of €430,000 and will be delivered over a 12‑month period.

Minister Dillon said the tender marks an important step in improving the school’s learning environment and supporting climate‑focused upgrades across the education sector.

He noted that the refurbishment will modernise the existing science facilities, enhance energy efficiency, and provide students with a safer, more sustainable and better‑equipped space for practical science education.

The minister also highlighted the significance of continued capital investment in Castlebar’s schools, stating that projects like this strengthen the town’s educational offering and support long‑term development across the region.

Minister Dillon said he looks forward to the project progressing to construction and emphasised that the refurbishment will make a meaningful difference for students, teachers and the wider school community at Davitt College.
