More penalty drama for Mayo girls at Gaynor Cup tournament

FOLLOWING yesterday's Bowl quarterfinal loss to Wexford, the Mayo management made six changes to their starting lineup for today's Bowl place match versus Carlow and District at the Gaynor Cup tournament in Limerick, writes Michael Collins.

Having to play two games each day on Tuesday and Wednesday takes its toll in tournament football like this (I know, having been there that many times).

Mayo went ahead in the seventh minute with Violet O'Malley grabbing her third goal of a most impressive week, with Ellen Masterson providing the assist. Mayo held that lead until three minutes from time when they conceded to leave the game tied at one goal each at full-time.

Straight to penalties and for the second time this week the young Mayo girls came out the wrong side of a shoot-out, going down 4-2.

Mayo have their last match tomorrow (Friday) morning at 10 a.m. when they face Tipperary South in another Bowl place match.
