Rain set to return as unsettled conditions continue across Mayo

After a largely bright start to Friday, weather conditions are set to deteriorate across Mayo as rain spreads into the county during the afternoon.

Forecasters are predicting a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers during the morning hours, offering some respite following a cool and changeable week.

However, conditions will become increasingly unsettled as the day progresses, with rain moving in from the southwest during the afternoon.

Winds will also strengthen, turning from southerly to southeasterly and becoming moderate to fresh, with gustier conditions expected along exposed coastal areas.

Daytime temperatures are forecast to reach between 12 and 15 degrees Celsius.

The wet weather is expected to persist into Friday night, with widespread outbreaks of rain forecast across the country.

Some of the heaviest falls are expected in southern counties, although Mayo is also likely to experience prolonged periods of rainfall.

Overnight temperatures will fall to between 8 and 11 degrees, accompanied by fresh and gusty southeasterly winds.

Looking ahead, the national outlook suggests a continuation of unsettled conditions throughout the weekend and into next week, with rain or showers expected on most days.

Breezy weather is also likely at times, while temperatures are set to remain below average for early June.
