West Mayo community grieves passing of 'absolute gentleman' Seamus Maxwell

The deceased was father of Mayo County Councillor Chris Maxwell

The death of Seamus Maxwell, Ballyhip, Louisburgh, has evoked a sense of great loss across west Mayo.

He died peacefully at the Mayo Hospice surrounded by his loving family.

Seamus is sadly missed and remembered with love by his wife Sally (née O'Grady), sons Chris, an elected member of Mayo County Council, John, Michael and David, daughters Anna-Marie, Eileen and Pauline, brothers Willie, Mike and John, sister Delia Coen, sons-in-law Joe, John and John, daughters-in-law Sally, Elaine, Michelle and Jacinta, his 28 grandchildren and his great grand-daughter, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, extended Maxwell and O'Grady families, neighbours, and a large circle of friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Seamus was predeceased by his brother Joe.

Fond tributes are being paid to the deceased on social media.

One stated: "Seamus's life was clearly one devoted to family, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him."

Another said: "Seamus was an absolute gentleman and will be missed."

"He was a lovely, friendly man," another observed.

Seamus will rest in repose at Sweeney's Funeral Home, Louisburgh, this evening (Thursday) from 5 p.m., concluding with Vigil Prayers at 7 p.m.

Funeral will arrive at St. Patrick's Church, Louisburgh, on Friday at 11.30 a.m. for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon, followed by interment in Kilgeever Cemetery.
