Shuttle bus service needed in Mayo county town
A SHUTTLE bus service would help ease traffic congestion in Castlebar.
The service is also becoming relevant as people struggle to find parking in the town, Councillor Cyril Burke has suggested.
He has highlighted difficulties with trying to park at areas such as the primary care centre and Hawthorn Village, as well as lack of availability in the town centre at the Market Square car park, for example.
A bus servicing the primary care centre and a number of estates might alleviate some of the traffic jams and staff coming into town, freeing up parking for customers.
Other towns have implemented schemes and transport alternatives around Castlebar need to be looked at, he told a municipal district meeting.
Councillor Burke received a commitment to hold discussions with Local Link to see if a shuttle can be advanced.
