Celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg at Mayo's Linenhall Arts Centre today
AS part of Cruinniú na nÓg, Ireland’s national day of free creative activity for children and young people, there is a full day of free children's events at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar today (Saturday, June 6).
The programme of events is outlined below.
Moving Myths: Family Art Sessions
10.30 a.m. and 12 p.m. | Ages 4–11
Inspired by myths and folktales from around the world, including Bebok, Kraken and Fionn MacCool, children and their adults will create moving paper statues together. Led by Linenhall community artists Alexsandra, Justyna and Svitlana.
Duration: 60 minutes
Children must be accompanied by a guardian.

Sketch Tour: Two Singers One Song
2 p.m. | Ages 15–18
Join young artist Ixchel Gilplin for a relaxed sketching session within the exhibition Two Singers One Song by Jackie Askew and Sheila Vollmer. Participants will explore the artworks through observation and quick sketching exercises, focusing on creativity, composition and visual discovery rather than finished drawings.
Duration: 75 minutes
Sketchbooks and materials provided for those booked in advance.

Origami for Beginners
2 - 4 p.m. | Ages 11–18
Discover the art, engineering and mathematics of origami with Ireland’s leading Origami artist, Daniel McMonagle (Origami Danny). Learn the basics of folding techniques and reading origami diagrams while transforming a simple sheet of paper into a unique sculpture.
All materials provided.

The Museum of Believing – Interactive Workshop
2.30 - 4.30 p.m. | Ages 7–12
Drop in and help uncover mysterious objects and imagine the stories behind them. From fairy crystals to mini cannons, young participants will explore themes of history, archaeology, cultural objects and storytelling in this engaging interactive experience.
No booking required.
Drop-in workshop with sessions lasting approximately 20 minutes per child.
