Warm tributes to skilled Mayo craftsman Padraic O'Malley

The death of Padraic O' Malley, Pontoon Road, Castlebar, is deeply regretted in the community at large.

He died suddenly and peacefully at Mayo University Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Padraic was a skilled carpenter who also ran his own transport company, bringing local football teams to fixtures across the county and province for many years.

He served as a volunteer during the lifetime of the former Castlebar International Song Contest.

In a tribute, a former director of the event, Paddy McGuinness, stated: "I am distraught at the loss of a life-long friend.

"Padraic was a willing worker and an outstanding carpenter. We shared so many experiences ranging from the Song Contest to regular jobs in Albany and Derryhick."

"A lovely gentleman and a great craftsman, may he rest in peace," another tribute said.

"He was a good friend and always so obliging when we needed help in our home," a further tribute added.

Predeceased by his parents Paddy and Mary, he is deeply regretted by his heartbroken family: his wife Ann, sons Darren (Dublin) and Alan (London), daughters Sandra (London), Caroline (London) and Lorraine (Castlebar), sisters Rosaleen Quigley, Joan Atkins and Dorothy Cahill, brothers-in-law Martin, Philip and Liam, his adored grandchildren Lara, Summer, Cillian, Ella, Alice and Sylvie, sons-in-law Mark and Danny, daughter- in-law Anita, nephews, nieces, relatives, extended family, neighbours and friends.

Sympathy is tendered to the bereaved family on their loss.

Reposing at his home on Tuesday from 4 until 7 o' clock.

Removal from his home on Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. to the Church Of The Holy Rosary, arriving at 11 o' clock for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m.

Interment takes place afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
