New extension opened at Mayo primary school by past pupil Minister Dillon
A new state-of-the-art extension has been officially opened at Ballyheane National School.
The ceremony was performed by Minister of State Alan Dillon and he described the event as 'a proud and wonderful day' for the progressive community.
He said: "As a past pupil, this was a special moment for me, almost 40 years after I first walked through the school gates.
"I know how much this extension means to pupils, parents, staff and the wider community.
"I was delighted to help support this important project and to see the excitement and pride it has brought locally.
"Congratulations to principal Ann Marie Kelly, the staff, board of management and parents association for their dedication and commitment.
"A wonderful day for Ballyheane NS and its future generations," he added.
The extension includes the addition of a new mainstream classroom and a special education teaching room.
The works have also resulted in the upgrading of services to the existing building as well as improvements to the existing set-down area and access for emergency services.
