Manulla FC - top of the table in the Premier Division.

Goals galore in latest round of Mayo women's league

Friday's women's league fixtures produced something of a goal-fest.

Manulla led the way in the Premier Division, enjoying an emphatic 7-0 victory over Straide & Foxford.

A difficult 10 minutes in the first half where they fell three in arrears saw S&F facing a tough task, as the league leaders now sit on 13 points - three clear of Swinford FC.

Katie Heaney is having a great season for the winners and accounted for four of the Manulla goals.

Down the road at Conn Rangers, Swinford also recorded a victory, 1-3 the result there.

A difficult opening half-hour saw Conn trailing 3-0, but a closer second half yielded a consolation goal from Eimhear Gorman in the 83rd minute.

A good tussle between Kilmore and Castlebar Town ended 2-2 down in Erris.

Aine Monaghan was quick out of the blocks for Kilmore with a goal in the fifth minute, and Rachel Barrett doubled their advantage in the 10th. Roisín Horkan, however, notched up her ninth league goal of the season just three minutes after that to peg the home side back a bit.

There was to be no other score until Amy Dowling popped up with the equaliser in the 79th minute, Town having been reduced to 10 players 14 minutes earlier.

DIVISION ONE

Ella McLoughlin was in devastating form again this week for Killala, with five goals in a 9-1 rout of Ballinrobe Town in their Division One fixture.

Three of the game's goals came in the opening five minutes, McLoughlin inside 60 seconds, Ursula Shaughnessy equalising a minute later, and McLoughlin then restoring the lead once more.

A dominant performance by Killala also saw Alva Munnelly recording a hat-trick.

Kiltimagh Knock United came out the right side of a 2-7 result on the banks of the Moy, where a strong wind blew across an immaculate pitch.

Ballina Town rattled their visitors with two early goals – well taken scores by Maria O'Brien on five minutes and Deirbhile Kilcullen in the eighth minute. But once they settled, KK reeled it back to lead 3-2 at the break through Mary Ann Ward (2) and the hard-working Saoirse Murray.

KK dominated the second half as Ward completed her hat-trick and Viktoria Balik-Nowak recorded her first hat-trick for the club.

It was a closer affair between Castlebar Celtic and Westport United - the result 2-1 in favour of Celtic.

A Grainne Flynn goal for Celtic was the difference between them at half-time in an excellent game that also saw a crucial save from Naoise Heffernan in the second half.

Sarah Jane Kilcawley added a late second goal on 88 minutes, and despite Westport pulling one back in the 90th minute, time ran out on them getting anything from the game.

DIVISION THREE

Crossmolina are keeping the pressure on Division Two leaders Snugboro who suffered their first league defeat of the season at the hands of the north Mayo side.

Danielle Kelly gave Crossmolina the lead in the 25th minute, while Snugboro were to rue what could have been, their chances including a missed penalty just shy of 20 minutes from the end.

With five games played 'Boro sit top of the table on 12 points - two ahead of Crossmolina.

Glenhest Rovers enjoyed their first win of the season, putting two goals past Achill Rovers.

Eiryn Wallace, with the wind at her back, opened Glenhest's account in the 13th minute. Achill dug deep in the second half but it was 'Hest who were to net the assurance score with 15 minutes left to play.

These sides have it all to do again next Friday evening when they meet in the Mayo Women's Shield.
