Council issue notice to shut Mayo traffic route for a number of months

Mayo County Council has served notice of its intention to close the L-1321 (Church Road/Bonnifinglas Road), Attymass, Ballina, from Tuesday next, June 23, to Friday, November 27 next.

The reason for the closure is to facilitate cable duck laying as part of the Eirgrid North Connaught 110KV project.

A diversion route for traffic will be established between Ballina, Foxford and Swinford in both directions utilising a series of local roads and streets.

Special provision will also be in place for local traffic being diverted through Attymass.

During the project, EirGrid will be laying a new 110 kV underground electricity cable from the Moy substation in Ballina to the Tonroe substation in Ballaghaderreen, increasing grid capacity in the area and accommodating more renewable energy.
