An elected member of Mayo County Council, Councillor Brendan Mulroy, has extended best wishes to Mickie Carney on his retirement from St. Brendan's National School, Kilmeena.

Mr. Carney served as principal for the past number of years.

Stated Councillor Mulroy: "Mickie played a huge role in the development of the school alongside his staff team.

"His dedication to the youth of Kilmeena and commitment to making his community a better place to live was evident to be seen.

"When people needed help and support, Mickie Carney was there to provide that.

"Enjoy the downtime Mickey. To yourself, Davina and family enjoy the celebrations, they are well deserved."

The Family Centre, Castlebar, has also joined in the tributes.

A Facebook post by the centre stated: "We are especially grateful to Mickie and the entire school community for being the very first school to engage with our Turn It Inside Out mental health awareness campaign.

"From the moment we arrived, Mickie offered us a warm welcome, enthusiastic support, and a genuine commitment to promoting positive mental health and wellbeing among young people.

"His leadership, dedication, and care for the students, staff, and wider community have left a lasting impact that will be felt for many years to come.
