Mayo Sports Ability Week 2026 officially launched
Following the success of the last five years, Mayo Sports Partnership is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated launch of Sports Ability Week 2026, an initiative aimed at increasing awareness of community sports and physical activity opportunities for people with disabilities across Mayo.
In collaboration with various partner organisations and local clubs, Mayo Sports Partnership has put together a comprehensive week of activities, from Monday, June 22 to Monday, June 29.
Mayo Sports Partnership is proud to present Sports Ability Week, a key initiative within its Sports Inclusion Programme, dedicated to fostering inclusivity and expanding access to sport for people of all abilities. This week-long celebration features a vibrant mix of activities designed to engage participants of all ages and interests — from walking, cycling, and inclusive football and soccer, to kayaking for children and adults with additional needs, VI tennis, pétanque, and much more.
These events not only promote active lifestyles but also showcase some of Mayo’s finest outdoor amenities, reinforcing the county’s commitment to accessible and inclusive recreation.
Charlie Lambert, Head of Mayo Sports Partnership, highlighted the importance of creating opportunities that focus on ability and participation:
“Sports Ability Week is about recognising what people can do and ensuring everyone feels welcome in sport. We are seeing more and more clubs across the county embracing inclusion, and Mayo Sports Partnership is here to support them with training, guidance, and resources as they continue to open their doors to all.”
Mayo Sports Partnership also welcomes Kate Feehan to her new role as Sports Inclusion Officer. Speaking about the upcoming week, Kate said:
“I’m delighted to take up this role and be part of such a positive and progressive programme. “Sports Ability Week is a fantastic opportunity to highlight inclusive opportunities across Mayo and to encourage people of all abilities to get involved, try something new, and feel part of their local community.”
A full calendar of events can be found on the Mayo Sports Partnership website here.
For clubs interested in becoming more inclusive, please contact Kate Feehan by emailing kfeehan@mayococo.ie or phoning 087 6498543.
