Small Mayo school, big national achievement
Scoil Naomh Bhríde in Ballycroy has secured its second national STEM award in the space of a year.
The school has once again been awarded the prestigious Research Ireland Curious Minds Platinum Award for Excellence in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) Education, marking the school's second Platinum Award achievement.
The award recognises excellence in STEM education and is only granted to schools that demonstrate exceptionally high standards across all areas of STEM learning.
This national recognition is a tremendous endorsement of the outstanding work being carried out every day by the pupils and staff of the school.
While Scoil Naomh Bhríde may be one of the smallest schools in Ireland with only seven pupils, this award once again proves that excellence in education is not measured by numbers but by commitment, dedication and ambition.
The award judges praised the school for empowering pupils with scientific skills, knowledge and confidence, and for fostering a genuine love of science, technology, engineering and mathematics throughout the school community. They highlighted the creativity, enthusiasm and engagement of the children, and commended the innovative teaching and learning experiences taking place across the school.
This achievement is particularly special because it reflects the dedication and professionalism of the staff, who continually go above and beyond to provide the highest quality educational experiences for the pupils.
Through hands-on learning, coding, engineering projects, scientific investigations and outdoor mathematical activities, they inspire children to think critically, solve problems, and develop skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
The award is also a tribute to the wonderful pupils and parents whose enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to embrace new challenges were recognised by the judging panel.
At a time when the future of many small rural schools is being debated, this award serves as a powerful reminder of the exceptional educational opportunities available in Scoil Naomh Bhríde, Ballycroy. For the second year in a row, this little school on the edge of the Atlantic has been recognised nationally for excellence, innovation and achievement.
Sincere congratulations is extended to everyone involved in this remarkable success. It is an achievement of which the entire Ballycroy community can be immensely proud.
