Pilgrimage of Peace to take place in east Mayo village

St. Joseph’s Family of Parishes is extending a warm invitation to its parishioners, local residents, families, friends and visitors to take part in a special Pilgrimage for Peace on Sunday, June 28, beginning at 2 p.m. at Straide Church (F26 FP48).

The afternoon event will bring people together in prayer, reflection and community spirit as participants embark on a local pilgrimage walk before gathering for a Prayer Service for Peace in the historic surroundings of Straide Abbey.

As part of the afternoon, attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about the rich heritage of Straide Abbey and the life and legacy of Michael Davitt, one of Ireland’s most influential historical figures, who is closely associated with the area.

Following the pilgrimage and prayer service, refreshments will be served in Straide Community Centre, providing an opportunity for participants to meet, relax and enjoy fellowship together.

Organisers hope the event will offer a meaningful occasion for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together in a spirit of peace, friendship and hope.

A spokesperson said: “We warmly welcome everyone to join us as we pray together, walk together and reflect on the importance of peace in our communities and in our world. This pilgrimage is an opportunity to connect with one another, celebrate our local heritage and strengthen the bonds that unite us.”

The Pilgrimage for Peace is organised by St. Joseph’s Family of Parishes, which includes the parishes of Bohola, Killasser, Kiltimagh, Straide and Swinford.

Working together as one family of faith, these parishes seek to build vibrant, welcoming communities where people can grow in faith, support one another and respond together to the pastoral needs of today’s Church. Events such as the Pilgrimage for Peace reflect this shared commitment to prayer, community and hope.
