Renewed bid to slow down traffic speeding through remote Mayo village
Mayo County Council has been asked to consider installing speed ramps or raised pedestrian crossings on Main Street, Ballycastle, in an attempt to slow down traffic through the village.
The notice of motion was tabled at a meeting of Ballina Municipal District by Councillor Jarlath Munnelly.
Vincent O'Boyle, engineer, pointed out that the speed limit on the road (R314) through Ballycastle is 50km/h but he said the council will carry out a speed survey to assess the actual speed of vehicles.
Senior engineer Theresa Durkin said they will see what needs to be done once the speed survey has been completed.
In another notice of motion, Councillor Munnelly asked Mayo County Council to consider putting speed ramps on the rear road in Woodview Estate, Killala.
Mr. O'Boyle once again said the council would carry out a speed survey on the road (LT 21075), which is governed by a a 30km/h speed limit.
