Motorist arrested after being clocked at 174km/h on busy Mayo roadway
A motorist has been arrested for dangerous driving after being detected travelling at 174km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N17 in Mayo.
The vehicle overtook a number of vehicles at high speed before the detection by members of the Mayo Roads Policing Unit.
The driver was arrested and now faces:
* A two-year driving disqualification
* A fine of up to €5,000
* Or up to 6 months in prison.
"Speeding at this level puts everyone on the road at risk," a garda spokesperson stated.
