Mayo communities grieve passing of 'real gentleman' Martin Derrig

The death of Martin Derrig, Dromore, Clogher, Claremorris, and formerly of Westport, has evoked a huge sense of loss.

Martin passed away suddenly in the Mater Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

A member of the staff of AbbVie, Westport, many warm tributes have been paid to the deceased.

One stated: "Martin was always so friendly and a real gentleman. Another lovely person from The Quay (Westport) gone to his eternal rest."

"I was shocked to hear of Martin's untimely passing. Martin took great pride in everything he did," another said.

A further tribute observed: "Martin always applied himself in a professional and friendly manner as a valued member of the unitdose department in AbbVie.

"Any request of Martin was always received in a positive, can do manner. He will be sadly missed."

A tribute on the Ballintubber Abbey Facebook page described Martin as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

"Martin was immensely proud of his family. Known for his warm nature, kindness and ever-present smile, he touched the lives of all who knew him and will be greatly missed."

Predeceased by his father Padraig, mother Kathleen, and brother Michael, he is deeply regretted by his loving wife and best friend Teresa, daughter Naomi, sons Colin and Keith, adored grandchildren Ellie and Harry, daughter-in-law Aisling, sisters Mary (Joe) and Pauline (Gerry), nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, neighbours, work colleagues, and a wide circle of friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Funeral Nass tajes in Ballintubber Abbey today (Monday) at 1 p.m. with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
