Extra train service for Mayo supporters confirmed for Cork clash
Irish Rail have reversed their decision and will provide a special train service from Mayo for the All-Ireland quarter-final against Cork on Saturday.
Senator Mark Duffy confirmed the news this afternoon following ongoing campaigning on the issue.
The extra service will depart Westport at 9.15 a.m., travelling to Heuston Station.
The return service will leave Heuston at 9.10 p.m.
Ballina and Foxford passengers will have to travel via Castlebar or Claremorris due to scheduling. A direct train will be available on the return leg.
Senator Duffy had argued it was unfair that Louth, Kerry and Cork would all have special trains for supporters while Mayo fans were left without one.
He thanked Irish Rail's local staff, who made the service possible by working at short notice on Saturday.
Senator Duffy said it was regrettable that the extra train could not connect to Foxford and Ballina due to capacity issues on the Ballina line.
