Mayo set for exceptionally hot day with risk of thunderstorms

Mayo is in for an exceptionally hot and humid day on Thursday.

Apart from a few patches of drizzle in the northwest early on, it will be dry with good sunshine for most.

There is a chance of thunderstorms developing later in the day, most likely in the west and northwest.

Highest temperatures of 28 to 31 degrees are expected generally, possibly a bit warmer in some spots, with light to moderate east to southeast breezes.

These will become gusty in any thunderstorms.

THURSDAY NIGHT

Heavy showers and possible thunderstorms are likely to develop, mainly in the west and northwest, with a chance of spot flooding and frequent lightning.

It will be dry for most elsewhere, with clear spells.

Lowest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees are expected for most, though a few degrees cooler in parts of the northwest, in light to moderate northerly winds.

WEEK AHEAD

Friday will bring heavy and possibly thundery showers persisting in the northwest, with dry, sunny conditions elsewhere.

Highest temperatures of 22 to 26 degrees are forecast.

A shift to cooler, more changeable conditions is expected over the weekend, with outbreaks of showery rain spreading from the west on Saturday and breezy conditions with scattered showers on Sunday.
