Embankment work 'fantastic' ahead of EU Presidency meetings in Mayo
THE embankment along the railway line on the Foxford Road, Ballina, is expected to be completed before any visitors arrive in town in July for the EU Presidency.
That's what members were told at the June monthly meeting of Ballina Municipal District, where praise was heaped upon the council for the work at what was an eyesore for some time.
“It looks fantastic,” said Councillor Michael Loftus, adding that if the Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney, had visited Ballina on his recent visit to Mayo, he would been very impressed.
The job is 'well advanced', said architect Emmet O'Donnell. “It's drawing close to completion,” he explained. “There's a small amount of work left – tree planting and seeding – but expect it to be complete before any visitors arrive for the EU Presidency in July.”
The work to date has made a 'huge difference', said Councillor Annie May Reape, who complimented the council not just on that job, but on a number of projects – and added that having it done early in the year was a real bonus.
