Concerns raised over anti-social behaviour issues in Mayo residential area

An elected representative has raised concerns in respect of an anti-social behaviour case in a residential area in the Castlebar district.

Councillor Donna Sheridan said it involved alleged harassment of neighbours, pets and children.

The Fine Gael councillor called for stronger powers to address repeat offenders.

She also flagged at least two social housing properties that neighbours say are vacant, calling for firmer council action, including signage and a clear policy timeframe for confirming occupancy.

Councillor Michael Kilcoyne said the council can write to tenants in such cases, but that if they respond in a timeframe there is little that can be done.
