Disappointment as Mayo county town misses out on major funding for new houses
An elected representative has raised concerns that Castlebar missed out on the government's land activation fund.
Councillor Cyril Burke said Westport secured money for a project, while he said county Wicklow received several million euro.
The fund, which runs until 2030, aims to ensure the zoning of sufficient land for the provision of 300,000 homes nationally.
This includes targets to deliver an average of 12,000 new social homes each year.
He proposed the council prepare a strong application for the next funding round, seconded by Councillor Michael Kilcoyne, who suggested suitable sites be identified through the development plan review.
