Major extension plan approved for Mayo hotel following third party appeal

The proposed extension plans for the Wyatt Hotel, The Octagon, Westport, have been approved by An Coimisiún Pleanála following a third party appeal.

The multi-million-euro project includes 72 bedrooms and around 110 extra parking spaces.

The development also involves the construction of a new public path from Church Street to the leisure centre car park.

Elected members of the West Mayo Municipal District have welcomed the decision at today's meeting.

They also paid tribute to Kavanagh Group on their investment, with newly elected cathaoirleach Councillor Brendan Mulroy hailing it a great day for Westport and the wider region.

Councillor Peter Flynn agreed it was very welcome news, coming hot on the heels of the official opening of The Grace hotel in Westport last week, and being a great vote of confidence in Mayo.

The additional parking as part of the project was welcomed.
