Everyone invited to charity sporting event in central Mayo
Runners, walkers and families from across Mayo and beyond are invited to take part in Islandeady Cycling Club's 5k & 10k Walk/Run, which takes place this year on Saturday, August 1, at the picturesque Jack's Old Cottage in the central Mayo village not far from Castlebar.
Now firmly established as one of the highlights of the local sporting calendar, the annual event combines fitness, fun and community spirit, with all proceeds this year going towards the work of Islandeady Community Council and Islandeady GAA/LGFA.
Everyone is welcome to participate, regardless of age or fitness level. Whether you enjoy a leisurely walk, a steady jog or a competitive run, the event offers something for everyone. The route is officially measured and licensed by Athletics Ireland, with professional chip timing ensuring accurate race results.
The event will begin at 10 a.m., with both races starting and finishing at Jack's Old Cottage (F23 AW97). The scenic 5k route follows a clockwise circuit through the beautiful countryside of Islandeady before returning to the finish line. Participants taking on the 10k challenge will complete the course twice.
An organiser said the event continues to grow each year thanks to the tremendous support of participants, volunteers and the wider community.
“The Islandeady Fun Run is about much more than running. It is an opportunity for people to come together, enjoy a great morning outdoors and support organisations that make a real difference in our community. Whether you're aiming for a personal best, taking part with friends or enjoying a family walk, we look forward to welcoming everyone to Islandeady,” the spokesperson said.
Adults can register online for €15 (plus booking fee) at www.eventmaster.ie until 12 noon on Friday, July 31. In person registration on Friday evening or on the morning of the event will cost €20 per adult. Participants under 16 years of age can take part free of charge, making it an ideal event for families.
Race numbers can be collected at Jack's Old Cottage on Friday, July 31, from 6 to 7 p.m. or on Saturday, August 1, from 8.30 to 9.30 a.m. A race briefing will take place at 9.45 a.m., with the event getting underway at 10 a.m. sharp.
The organisers encourage everyone to come along, take part and enjoy a fantastic morning while helping to support two organisations that contribute so much to the Islandeady community throughout the year.
