Funding for 256 Mayo projects under the Local Enhancement Programme

Minister of State Alan Dillon has welcomed funding of €217,741.96 for 256 community projects across Mayo under the Local Enhancement Programme (LEP) 2026.

The programme provides €7 million in capital funding nationwide, supporting over 4,100 projects and thousands of voluntary organisations. The programme is administered locally by Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs) with support from each Local Authority.

Minister Dillon said: “Over 250 community groups and sporting organisations across all towns and villages across Mayo will receive funding of between €400 to €1,000 for a wide range of projects. These include €720 for Castlebar Swimming Club; €880 for Community Radio Castlebar FM; €1,000 for Castlebar Order of Malta Unit and €1,000 for Castlebar RFC. The Local Enhancement Programme is all about supporting our local groups and clubs who are vital to Irish community life. It helps groups improve their facilities through small-scale funding for minor renovations, essential equipment, and IT supports.

“I am delighted to see 256 Mayo projects receiving support under the Local Enhancement Programme 2026. We see sports clubs, disability supports, first responders, tidy towns groups and community media benefiting. This €217,741.96 investment strengthens the work of volunteers and community organisations across the county. Groups such as Tacu Family Resource Centre Ballinrobe, Belmullet Tidy Towns, Ballyheane Community Council, Charlestown Swimming Pool, Crossmolina AFC, Inishturk Community Club, Kilmaine GAA, The Linenhall Arts Centre, Moygownagh Community Centre, etc all receive this funding as each contribute to the social fabric of our towns and villages.”

He added: “These grants may be modest in size, but they make a real difference, helping groups upgrade facilities, purchase essential equipment, and continue delivering services that matter locally. I want to acknowledge Mayo County Council and the LCDC for their work in administering this programme.”
