Mayo book shop hosting 10th anniversary festival
BOOKS at One has announced a special weekend of events to mark its 10th anniversary, celebrating a decade of literature, community and connection in the heart of Louisburgh.
From July 17 to 19, the bookshop will host an array of free events featuring renowned authors, traditional craft demonstrations, an art exhibition by Derval Dunford, music and family-friendly entertainment.
“We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our community over these past 10 years,” Lisa Murphy, manager noted. “This weekend is our way of saying thank you and celebrating the vibrant culture that makes Books at One a third space for everyone.”
Event highlights include the following.
Friday, July 17:
7.30 p.m.: Celebrations kick off with an interview by former Taoiseach Enda Kenny of award-winning biographer Anne Chambers. The discussion will centre on Anne’s latest book, Living Lives: A Biographer’s Journey, and delve into the intricate art of writing biography.
Saturday, July 18:
11 a.m.: Children’s author Anne Printer reading Ollen the Oak Tree and Higgle the Holly Tree.
1 p.m.: Pop-up Gaeltacht.
2 p.m.: A demonstration and history of traditional súgán making and donkey cliabh by Seamus McNally, author of The Heart of the West.
3 p.m.: Live entertainment with Shrallabawn.
7 p.m.: Crime writers' panel featuring Una Mannion and Gill Perdue, chaired by Lorna Shaughnessy.
8.30 p.m.: An interview with Paul Lynch, chaired by Geraldine Mitchell.
Sunday, July 19:
A family fun day filled with activities and featuring music from Louisburgh Area Men’s Shed.
