North Mayo club edge keenly contested Tuohy Cup Final

The meteoric rise of Iorras Aontaithe continued at Umbro Park Milebush as the north Mayo club recorded a slender 1-0 win over Snugboro United in what was a keenly contested Tuohy Cup Final.

Iorras Aontaithe began this tie in a bright fashion, and they could well have snatched the lead after seven minutes, but Luke McManamon’s effort was aptly dealt with by Orann Bourke in the Snugboro goal.

As the first half progressed both sides struggled to create clear-cut chances. However, Snugboro did have opportunities to nudge in front before the interval, but on both occasions the Iorras custodian Cormac Reilly produced fine saves to deny Jason Ormsby, and Tom Murray.

Six minutes into the second period, the breakthrough arrived. Iorras’ Luke McWilliams saw his effort rebound off the crossbar, but the poaching Keelan Barrett was on hand to steer the loose ball to the back of the net at the second time of asking, after his initial effort was blocked.

Snugboro went very close to levelling matters on 73 minutes, with Odhran Donnelly’s close-range header flashing inches wide.

The Iorras game plan received a set-back on 88 minutes, after Nathan Reilly picked up his second yellow card and was dismissed by the referee.

Snugboro then almost snatched a dramatic late equaliser on the stroke of full-time, but Thomas Coen’s crisp volley sailed inches wide, much to the relief of the Iorras supporters.
