Mayo Minister welcomes approval of school transport extension for Louisburgh families

Minister of State Alan Dillon has welcomed the decision by the Department of Education to sanction the extension of the existing school transport service from the Louisburgh area to Gaelscoil na Cruaiche in Westport. The approval follows representations made by Minister Dillon on behalf of a group of families living in Louisburgh, who have chosen to attend the nearest Gaelscoil.

Sixteen children, aged between 4 and 13, were previously required to be dropped at a busy and unsafe crossroads approximately 20 minutes outside Louisburgh, with no shelter or safe waiting area.

Minister Dillon said he was pleased to assist these parents in their application and is delighted that it has been successful. “This extension will make a real difference for these families. It ensures a safe, central collection point in Louisburgh and supports children accessing Irish medium education in a secure and appropriate way.”

He added that improving safety and accessibility for schoolchildren remains a priority and thanked the families for their engagement and commitment throughout the process.
