President joins Ionad Pobail an Mháma for 30th anniversary celebrations
UACHTARÁN na hÉireann, Catherine Connolly, visited Ionad Pobail an Mháma at the weekend to celebrate 30 years of memories, activities and achievements of the Maam Women’s Group.
Having previously visited the heritage days organised by the group on three previous occasions, it was a great honour for members to welcome her back as Uachtarán na hÉireann.
A group spokesperson said: “We are especially grateful for the generous time she spent viewing the exhibitions highlighting the group's wide range of activities over the years, including knitting, crochet, art classes, educational programmes, outings and many other community initiatives. The President's genuine interest in the displays and in the stories behind them was greatly appreciated by the group.
“We also wish to thank her for the time she took to meet and chat with members and guests, and for graciously posing for photographs, creating lasting memories of a very special occasion. Her warmth, kindness and encouragement made the celebration all the more meaningful, and her visit will be remembered with great pride by everyone in the community.”
Thanks was also extended to all who helped organise the event and put the exhibits together, to Coiste Forbartha an Mháma and the staff of Ionad Pobail an Mháma for the use and preparation of the centre, and to the ladies who provided refreshments.
